Continuing the theme of super simple, but darn handy products is the PocketPower from GEAR4 (previously Podgear): a simple AAA way to boost and recharge the battery life of your MP3 player or USB gadget of choice.

The small Apple-ish styled device holds four AAA batteries (provided in box) which it charges over USB. Any USB charger based gadget can then be plugged into it for a power boost. In the case of the iPod GEAR4 claims an additional eight hours of audio playback.

Just an importantly, should you be caught short away from all USB power sources, the PocketPower can swallow standard AAA batteries and instantly fire up your gizmos, be it an MP3 player, digital camera, mobile phone or more. An LED torch is built into the charger should you found yourself fumbling around in the dark (we’ve all been there!).

EyeBud iPod wearable lcd

It had to happen and SeattlePI report that a wearable LCD screen “that can turn video iPod into big-screen TV for one”. One eye that is.

Bellevue-based eMagin Corp. has developed a wearable headset system that plugs into Apple Computer’s portable media device and displays video from it in front of one eye, using optical technology designed to give the picture a higher resolution and make it appear larger than on the iPod’s screen

These things won’t be cheap either - cost US$599. Until they fit both eyes out and incorporate it into a set of sun glasses, you can’t imagine this being too popular. But it’s a start.
